“Theological Anthropology”

December 8th, 2011 · 4 Comments · Definitions, Evolutionary Adaptation, Methodology

What is the meaning of this dubious concatenation? I’m not sure but am sure that it should be bracketed with scare quotes at all times.
I first became aware of “theological anthropology” while browsing the Evolution of Religion website, which is a Templeton funded project devoted to finding God’s plan in evolution. Here is the announcement [...]

This God sparked the original organism and designed an evolutionary process that has resulted in endless forms most beautiful and wonderful. But of all these forms, one stands out and one was the goal from the beginning: humans. When [...]

It all sounds measured and reasonable [...]

The Un-Intelligent Design of Religions

May 12th, 2010 · No Comments · Axial Age, Cognition, Cultural Evolution, Evolutionary Adaptation, History, Hunter-Gatherers

Over at HuffPo Religion, Michael Zimmerman has posted an interesting piece on the wild imperfection of the human genome and the implications of this imperfection for “intelligent design” believers:
The latest attack [on ID] appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS) and provides conclusive evidence that [...]

Beyond Intelligent Design — Raelians and Religion

April 23rd, 2010 · 1 Comment · Archaeology, Axial Age, Daily Devolutions, New Religions

In keeping with the spirit of my last post regarding ancient astr0nauts and the origins of modern religions, it is time to discuss The Raelian Movement.  On the origins front, Raelians really outdo those who assert that evolution is the product of some vaguely “intelligent design.”  As explained to Rael by an extraterrestrial visitor (known [...]
